Costume Institution Met Gala 2011

Just about every famous face you can think on put on their most dramatic frocks all in aid of the annual fashion event of the year - the Costume Institution Met Gala, held in New York.

This is the chance for us to sort the successful Fl@unters from the fashion failures as we explore who matched the high fashion criteria this year. Let's get going...

TOP FASHION MOMENTS OF THE NIGHT

Jennifer Lopez This look shows Fl@unt appeal to the maximum. Fl@unt is blown away by how gorgeous JLo looks adorned in a radiant combination of strong pink and red - colours we don't often see her in. The red lips enhance the already vibrant colours and the flower shrug elevates the dress into high fashion mode.

Lucy Liu The feather bustier teamed with sheer skirt fits the fashion forward dress code perfectly and the black colour only adds more amazing dramatic effect.

Diane Kruger Absolutely stunning in this look, Diane shows she ain't afraid to show some leg - who said high fashion can't be sexy?

Christina Ricci It's understandable why some may dislike this dress, however Fl@unt believes Christina hits the mark exactly here as she follows the dramatic dress code fashionably well. The Gala is about dressing up, breaking through the boundaries of fashion - where else would Christina get a chance to adorn this look? One of her best looks to date.

THE RIGHT LOOK

Rihanna A vision particularly from the back, this lacy reveal is sexy and suggestive and yet the floor length of the gown adds a touch of demure along with the chandelier earrings and vamp red lipstick.

Mary-Kate Olsen An example of bohemian-style on the red carpet, the movement of this dress brings a different look to the event and the clashing combination of red with green cuffs and neckline successfully sets the look off.

Solange Knowles 'Modern tribal' describes the look Solange has been sporting of late and this dress is no exception. She lets her natural hair free raising the look further.

Miranda Kerr A playful angelic beauty in this tutu dress - one of the few raised hemlines sported at the event this year.

Fergie She looks like a princess, or a bride even, ready to be married. This intricately designed dress with lace and beaded detail is heavenly and Fergie makes sure her accessories and make up are applied to match.

MISSING THE MARK

Taylor Swift This dress probably looked better on the catwalk, but here the skirt just hangs off Taylor losing shape and the inclusion of black netting and underskirt looks random. Not working.

Beyonce She likes her fishtail skirts doesn't she? While B looks nice, we've seen this look too many times before. It's just predictable which is not what this event is about - try harder next time Ms Knowles.

Keri Hilson Whatever happened to Keri Hilson's style? She used to rock it at public events and now it seems she has lost her fashion mojo. The dress could have worked better if she hadn't matched her make up so identically.

Demi Moore Too many black feathers and no structure or direction. She looks like a lost crow - someone please send her back to her nest.

The polls are open—vote for your favorite doodle!

Today, we’re thrilled to introduce the 40 Regional Finalists for this year’s U.S. Doodle 4 Google contest. This year we had a record number of submissions—more than 107,000 from talented student artists from every state across the country. We were amazed and delighted by not only the quantity of submissions but the caliber of this year’s entries.

For the second year in a row, we’re celebrating these winners in their very own schools. From Stilwell, Okla. to Woodinville, Wash., today Googlers are visiting the schools of our Regional Finalists to celebrate their incredible artwork along with thousands of their teachers, friends and classmates.

Our doodle team, volunteer Googlers and incredibly talented Guest Judges helped us determine the 40 Regional Finalists. Whoopi Goldberg, Evan Lysacek, Michael Phelps and Jim Davis (just to name a few) lent a hand to help find the cream of the artistic crop. Now comes one of the most exciting parts of the contest—your votes! From now until May 13 at 11:59 p.m. PDT, you can cast your online votes for your favorite Regional Finalist’s doodle (one vote for each of the four grade groups). On May 19, we’ll announce the national winner at our awards ceremony in New York City. The national winner will receive a $15,000 college scholarship and $25,000 towards a new computer lab for his or her school, and the winning design will appear on google.com on Friday, May 20. All of the top 40 Regional Finalists will also have their work publicly displayed at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and at SFMOMA in San Francisco.

Our top 40 Regional Finalists weren’t the only winners today—we’d also like to congratulate the 400 State Finalists. Last but not least, we’d like to take the time to thank the teachers, parents and administrators who encouraged their students to dream big and put those ambitions on paper. Without you, this contest wouldn’t have been possible.

The Best Star Tattoos Design

The best star tattoos design to express what you mean. Star tattoos are popular tattoo designs for women as well as men. They are a good choice for a first tattoo because a star is usually small in design and doesn't have to be very complicated, a small and simple black star tattoo can be very striking. The star is one of the oldest symbols and a significant image in many religions and belief systems. Stars have always been awe inspiring, even today, when we have science to help us understand what they are.

Recommended Watch: Remember Me

Fl@unt may be abit late catching this brilliant film - a year to be precise - but considering the historical mark made involving the death of one of the most dangerous terrorists of our time, Osama Bin Laden, whose commands resulted in the loss of masses of people's lives across the world for years, this film seems appropriate.

Remember Me looks at what it means to live of and for the moment as we just never know when it could all end. This film follows Robert Pattinson's character, Tyler Hawkins, whose suffered loss through his brother's suicide and the broken relationship between his father (Pierce Brosnan) that the death triggered. He finds love in Ally Craig, played by promising Australian actress Emilie De Ravin (Lost) who has also suffered loss through the murder of her mother years ago. We experience the journey these characters take in finding each other and how they become sweetly attached after finally answering each other's cry for comfort, consideration and attention.

This film takes a unique look at loss and the varied ways in which we deal with it and also suggests that sometimes those who leave us enable a possibility of new relationships and a rebuilding of old relationships that have since become damaged. Robert Pattinson proves his worth as an actor convincingly playing an American young man at a crossroads in his life, unsure of where he is headed while Emilie De Ravin portrays the vulnerable frustrated behaviour of a young woman perfectly. Pierce Brosnan is great as a father silenced by the death of his son occupying himself with his work before his family.

Fl@unt absolutely recommends this film as it is relevant to the situation of social and political life at the moment, bringing to attention the importance in remembering those we have lost and realizing how such loss can eventually strengthen our souls.

'Everybody Dies, But Not Everybody Lives' - Drake, 'Moment For Life'

The message of this film is that whatever you achieve or experience in life, just make sure you remember the moments that count.
